Great Northern Diver, Cheddar Reservoir, Somerset. This is another picture of the bird I photographed 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately since I saw it then it has been getting caught up in the pike fisherman's lines (around its head) whilst stealing their bait at the reservoir. It was released twice from fishing lines in which it had been entangled but seemed impervious to the danger. A local wildlife rescue organization was alerted with the view of moving the bird to a safer environment. Unfortunately before that could happen it appears once more to have got into difficulty and was found dead this morning. What a shame!
